With the release of the newly revised and expanded edition of The Promise of Paradise: Utopian Communities in British Columbia (Harbour Publishing, $24.95), author and photographer Andrew Scott will be presenting the fascinating history of intentional communities, including those throughout Vancouver Island, at the Museum at Campbell River on Sunday, April 9, 2017, from 1-3pm.

The Promise of Paradise explores the many utopian communities that have sprung up—or disappeared—in British Columbia in the past 150 years. Some of these groups found success, while others faced disillusionment and failure, all in search of a better way of life. This new edition features careful research and engaging first-person accounts alongside photographs showing the evolution of these communities over time.

Andrew Scott is the author of many books, including the award-winning Encyclopedia of Raincoast Place Names, and was a contributing editor and writer for the Encyclopedia of British Columbia. He lives on the Sunshine Coast.
