The public is invited to an open house reception being held at the Haig-Brown Heritage House on Saturday, November 26 from 1:00p.m to 3:00p.m to welcome the 2016/2017 Writer in Residence.  Take this opportunity to meet author John Donlan, who will be staying at the House during the winter months.

John Donlan has authored five books of lyric poetry, and has worked as an editor of most types of writing, particularly poetry.  He has worked extensively as a professional public services librarian, and has held previous writing residencies.  Donlan cites his work as a librarian with teaching him to help people of every variety of ability and life experience.

Donlan is planning to hold workshops in the community and to participate in literary events coordinated by the Museum at Campbell River, which oversees the Writer in Residence program.  Specifically, he is planning workshops in the New Year on writing memoirs and poetry.  Donlan will also be on hand to assist local writers with their manuscripts, offering one on one consultations.

During his time at the house, Donlan also plans to work on his sixth collection of poems, Out All Day

"I'm really enjoying exploring this beautiful place, and look forward to working face-to-face with writers and understanding more about Campbell River's literary culture,” explains Donlan.

John Donlan’s residency is made possible through assistance from Canada Council for the Arts.   The Haig-Brown House is located at 2250 Campbell River Rd.
