• Campbell River's first school house is constructed on the hill behind today's municipal hall.

 

• SS Cottage City, bound for Alaska with 30 chorus girls aboard, runs aground on the Willow Point Reef.

 

• Strathcona Park, B.C's first park, is created.

• A lakeside Forbes Landing Hotel replaces the earlier floating accomodation.

• Population of Campbell River: 200
 

1914

• Donations, plus $1.00 per month logger's payroll deductions, make possible Campbell River's first hospital, later called the Lourdes Hospital.


1917

 

• Prohibition comes into effect in B.C.

 

• Construction begins on the Quinsam Hotel.

 

• Crawford's Store opens in Campbellton.

1918

 
• A new bridge over the Oyster River replaces the makeshift one built by local residents.
   

1919

 

• The Bee Hive Ice Cream Parlour and Saloon is established.

• This original incarnation of the Bee Hive Cafe was operated by T.W. Hanson.  In 1929, Carl and Margaret Thulin adopted the name, opening the Bee Hive Cafe and Confectionary.  Over the years the Cafe changed ownership many times, but always remained a mainstay in the community.
