Aboard Columbia III, with historian Jeanette Taylor

Tour the islands and inlets off Vancouver Island’s east coast aboard the impeccably restored Columbia III. Ramble beaches, explore aboriginal villages and abandoned homesteads, handle colourful intertidal critters, and meet some of the fascinating people who live in this remote—and stunningly beautiful—region.

Historian Jeanette Taylor shares a treasure-trove of tales throughout, and our crew keeps guests fueled with gourmet fare. Both cruises on offer take you to places only accessible by boat, with daily shore excursions and a chance to see orcas, humpback whales, dolphins, sea lions, eagles and bears.

Discovery Islands & Bute Inlet

Five Day Tour ~ Departs May 21 & Returns May 25 ~ $1,795

There’s a memorable scene at every turn in our circuitous route through the densely packed Discovery Islands, on route to the snowclad mountains of Bute Inlet. We’ll putter by zodiac through the warm waters of Desolation Sound Marine Park, and ramble Mitlenatch Island’s trails to see one of BC’s largest seabird sanctuaries. We’ll tour a secret garden with a ghost, and pass through Seymour Narrows, site of world-famous Ripple Rock—which is just one of many story-rich highlights on this tour!

Broughton Islands to Kingcome Inlet

Six Day Tour ~ Departs May 27 & Returns June 1 ~ $2,250

We head north from Campbell River to explore the Broughton Islands and Kingcome Inlet, a place of mist-shrouded mountains, waterfalls, wildlife, crumbling homesteads and archaeological sites. We’ll ramble through the tall grasses and flowers of a long-abandoned aboriginal village, to see a traditional big house frame and a fallen totem. We’ll take a guided tour of a resettled Kwakwaka’wakw village, and meet legendary octogenarian Billy Proctor, who has lived his life far removed from ‘the grid.’

This tour returns by chartered bus from Port McNeill to Campbell River.
