It’s going to be a fun and spooky Halloween season at the Museum! This year the Museum is offering two amazing workshops for kids. On Saturday, October 27, from 1 pm – 3 pm, join artist Jessica Salo for a ‘Halloween Mask Making Workshop’. You've got your creepy costume, now you need a spooky face to match. Take your Halloween costume from ordinary to ExTrAoRdInArY with a one of a kind Mask of your own design. From feathers and foam, to glitter and glow-in-the-dark paint, we'll use everything under the full-moon to help you sculpt the scariest visage, the creepiest countenance, the most marvelous mask from here to Transylvania! The cost for this workshop is $30.00 and includes all of the materials needed. The workshop is appropriate for ages 5 and up.
Then on Sunday, October 28, from 12 pm to 4 pm, join Jessica for a ‘Super Sock-Monster-Mash’ workshop. In only 4 frightening hours you will master the spooktacular art of forging maniacal Monsters and their Super-Hero nemeses from ordinary socks. Learn the timeless skills of hand-sewing while creating your own ghoulish likeness from socks, gloves and other recycled textiles. But BEWARE - these plushies are so much fun they're SCARY! This workshop is for kids and adults 7 years old and up. The cost is $40.00 and includes all of the materials needed, though participants are welcome to bring their favourite sock. Hometown Campbell River girl Jessica Salo has a Fine Arts degree from York University and has been teaching textiles sculpture on Cortes Island since 2008. She has expanded her repertoire to include a wide variety of unique crafting projects including everything from building didgeridoos and making prayer-flags, to designing personalized tarot cards and creating magic wands. Space is limited. Please call the Museum at 287-3103 to reserve your spooky spot!
